A Poem

Yes, this is a poem

I bet you’re pretty surprised

It doesn’t really have any purpose

This doesn’t paint any beautiful pictures either

It’s actually kind of boring… and you’re reading it

I apologize

It doesn’t have any humor in it

This poem is going nowhere

Honestly, it will probably continue on like this

No rhyming scheme

No topic

Nothing to address

There isn’t any intricate vocabulary that will impress you

This poem doesn’t contain anything like:

“And so the towering mountains rose over the majestic valley of Babylon”

or

“The glory of the River Rhine cast a shadow of darkness across Man’s heart”

You can stop any time

I’m pretty sure Ms. Mouw will not notice if you put down some generic comment

This was pretty much written because I wanted to try something new

That’s the background

Obviously it isn’t working out so well

Perhaps this would be a good time to stop

Then again one or two more lines wouldn’t

The requirement for this week was two pages

So I’ll keep adding on

Make it longer than it really is

And it would be pointless to stop midway

Gotta save those trees and whatnot

… Soooo, you’re still reading

“A” for effort I guess

Congrats! You have more commitment than I thought

Still not much going on though

Yes, this is a poor attempt to stall in case you haven’t noticed yet

I guess it’s better than some of the other stuff that’s out there

Should try to get this published, make millions

This is where it ends

Sorry

Filled up most the page

I fell accomplished

And you should to

You read it

But you were warned

Just sayin’

THE END

Kristin

The will to prevent a younger brother from having any kind of luck was a powerful force: one that had it's grimy little hands wrapped around Fredericks throat from they day he heard young Ben's bornig cry. And it had a death grip on Frederick's little spiderman nighties with it's sharp tallons. Like some psychopathic form of schadenfruede; Frederick would rather die than see Ben happy, sucessful, and independent. Frederick would not admit it, but the cause of his irrationality was, in fact, jealousy. It consumed him.
When Ben was just the size of a bread loaf Frederick crept into the nursury and found Ben happily playing with the zoo themed mobile above his crib. Within a few minutes Frederick switched a few lions and elephants out for some broken glass and barb wire before slinking away into the night. It would not do Frederick justice to say that he wanted Ben dead, but just that he wished he wasn't there, or at least that he would be a true and utter failure to his brother's amusement.
Near his first birthday, Ben's first word was "bitch" thanks to Frederick. Doctors found twelve lego pieces up his nose thanks to Frederick. At three he could smoke cigars thanks to Frederick. And when he first learned to ride a bike he broke his collar bone thanks to Frederick. But however hard dear Freddie tried to be rid of his younger brother he never quite succeeded. In an attempt to leave Ben at a convenience store Frederick was conned into buying window washing fluid and forgot about the whole thing. Freddie was very forgetful. In fact, when he tried to broil Ben like a thanksgiving ham he forgot to turn the oven on and when his parents came home he had to make up an interesting story about a game of hide and seek.
Over the years Ben matured and the homacide attempts grew more and more intracate until one day. The family was gathered around the Thanksgiving table, enjoy eachother's company and myrth when Ben held up a piece of the turkey. "This," he said, "is the wishbone. It is the most philosophical bit of the turkey, determining triumph and defeat. Won't you share it with me Frederick?"
So both of them grasped a root of the wish bone and stared into the other's unwavering eyes. But before either could count to three and break the bone which would shape destiny, turn fate, and judge the luck and mortality for each...

Zombies in the Parking Lot

*This story I wrote for the creative writing assignments in Composition II. I liked the final outcome a lot so now I am sharing it with the Guild and others who find it. Go ahead and give any feedback on the writing and if there are people who want me to continue on this writing I'll see what I can do. Enjoy!*

Lee has been in a security guard for Wal-Mart for the past five years ever since he got back from fighting in the middle-east. He saw horrible things there, things he never wanted to repeat. He found his new job relaxing; a gun was always by his side but he never had to shoot it. Not once did he ever want to. The worst he’s ever gotten up this point was a few of skateboarding hooligans who were tagging the back of the mega-chain store.

It was 3a.m. and Lee was on graveyard patrol. He loved the graveyard patrol because most people were sleeping and hardly anyone showed up to Wal-Mart. He got a report of a disturbance going on at a customer’s car, so he got off the computers and went to check out what was going. Leaving the security office he saw there were a few people walking around doing their nighttime shopping. He went through one of the two exits and started walking to his partner, Harvey. Harvey was a college kid just trying to get some easy cash to pay off his room and board.

“There’s like two guys over trying to break into someone’s car,” Harvey said to his approaching mentor.

“Well follow me newbie. We’ll see what’s going on and get it fixed before we have to call the police,” grumbled Lee. He hated it when he actually had to get involved in anything. He wished he could just do nothing. The two approached the car and heard moaning and grunting along with thumping. Lee took out a light and shone it on the two. “Hey what are you two doing?” he asked.

The two men turned around to reveal rotting flesh for faces and eyes without a pupil. Their teeth were gnarled with black goo oozing out. One of them opened his mouth and gave a low moan.

“Holy crap, what the hell is that!” screamed Harvey. He pulled out his baton, ready to swing but too afraid to.

Lee pulled out his pistol and aimed it at the closest zombie. “Don’t move or I’ll shoot,” he said.

The zombies continued to approach and Lee shot one in the knee. The zombie continued to move despite the shattered kneecap. Harvey swung at the second zombie who fell back. The swing would’ve been hard enough to knock a man unconscious, but that zombie just got up ready for more.

“Lee, what do we do now?” asked Harvey.

“Kid, cover your eyes, this is going to get bloody,” Lee replied. He did what he thought he would never have to do again. He aimed the gun straight in between the eyes and popped off a round. The back of the zombie’s head burst and it fell back. It never got back up. The second zombie shuffled closer, but Lee had enough time to aim another shot and pop off another round. That zombie also fell over and never came back up.

“Was that necessary old man!” shouted Harvey, who was going through shock.

“You let me worry about that. Head to that car and make sure whoever was in it is safe now,” commanded Lee. “I’m going to check these things for ID.”

“Fine, just don’t let those things come near me,” grumbled Harvey. He jogged up to the car and looked inside. There was a woman in there, probably in her early twenties. He also saw blood; on the window and on her arm. He opened up the door and looked inside. “Hey, miss. You okay? You’re not injured are you?”

The wounded lady fell onto the ground and tried clutching at his pant legs. She got herself up and took a long look at Harvey.

“Hey, Lee, this lady’s injured! We’re going to need the first aid!” he started to shout but then the lady took a bite at his neck and ripped a piece of flesh out. He screamed in pain and pushed her back. He pulled out his own pistol and fired off several rounds into the lady’s reanimated corpse. He shot off every round his magazine had but she still got to her knees and took a bite at his ankle. Lee rushed over and kicked her away from Harvey. He aimed his gun and shot her in the head.

“Harvey, you okay!?” he shouted back as he kept an eye on the lady. “Whatever these things are they only die by headshots.” He looked and he saw Harvey struggling to stay alive. He went to the kid and saw his eyes begin to change. Lee found himself shocked, but it quickly passed when he knew what to do. He got up and shot a round into Harvey’s head. He closed this eyes and turned back to Wal-Mart. Only now did he realize that there was chaos going on in the store.

“Well, looks like this is only the beginning,” he said to himself as three zombies from different angles slowly close in on him.

isn't one yet

I wrote this story awhile ago for the writer's club. As of now it's the only thing i got. Hope y'all enjoy, until i can get some more stuff up

She opened the door to her bedroom, revealing me in nothing but a t-shirt and a pair of socks. As soon as she looked at me I knew I should probably put some pants on. She laughed and all the blood rushed to my face. My face got hot and my stomach sunk.

“This was not where this was going,” she said.

“But, with the kissing and the…” She interrupted me and put her finger to my lips. She was still laughing, looking first at my face, then at my pasty white legs.

She put her mouth right next to my ear and whispered in the sexiest way, “Maybe you should put your clothes on before my parents get home.”

“That’s a good idea.” I whispered back to her. I fumbled around for my discarded blue jeans I threw somewhere on the floor. I got down on my knees to rifle through the laundry on the floor. Then we heard a door slam.

We both looked at the door. I turned away and started digging faster. “Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit,” were the only words running through my mind. Her voice became a hiss, “You need to get out of here!”

“You don’t think I know that?” I yell-whispered back.

“I’m home!” shouted the voice. It was getting closer to us. I kept digging. I heard footsteps getting closer to the bedroom door.

“Baby, where are you?”

Just as the door handle started to turn I felt the zipper of my pants underneath the bed. She ran to the door and slid against it, slamming the opening door shut.

“Just a second, I’m changing,” she said to the man on the other side of the wall. She waved her hand, telling me to get out. I grabbed my pants, opened the bedroom window, and dove out into the knee-high snow… right in front the neighbor children outside.

Vicious Cycle

I'm stuck... on this bump in the road.
and i begin to think.... endlessly.
i cant stop. why life? why humans?
where does it all end? why did it even begin?
i don't think my thoughts are smart enough to be heard.
but i can't cage them, they'd explode inside.
and then catch an infection.. which isn't good.
so how did i end up here? maybe i didn't.
but who am i to say anything?
i have no powers, i have no powers.
im not a great being, im not god.
i lose focus so easily its not even funny... and this is horrible.
i want to touch a whale...
but i'd be scared... because they're so big...
what if it ate me? nah, i'd get in my car and drive off full speed.
but theres no point in that. i mean ill eventually run out of gas.
why is it so expensive? it makes me feel poor...
and even if i was, i'd hate for it to be rubbed in my face constantly.
i would make an awesome homeless person.
i think... well maybe... if i could survive...
okay... so this is my first post...
and i think im getting writers block....
its kinda like... that feeling...
I'm stuck... on this bump in the road.

One of my stories from Writer's Club (last week)...

"Tell me a story."
"Child, I'm too tired."
"Tell me a story!"
"Child, I have nothing to say."
"Please, please tell me a story."
"The birds and the bees, child, the birds and the bees."
"What about them?"
"They are a marvelous thing. They both fly through the air; free as can be."
Then his grandmother descended into the stiff mattress, sheets and pillow as she passed to the other side...of the wall. Where the secret meeting of prankster grandparents awaited. Forever loving the pranks and jokes they play on their unsuspecting devil-grandchildren that need to be taught a lesson because their spoiled ways were slowly corrupting the pirkle-lighted diminishing world.
The world of no creativity and unsurpassed frenemies of the disruptive political scandalous leaders wherein death happens all too often.
The prankster grandparents sat back and enjoyed the view...
